Career
Advancement Programs |
The purpose of the Career
Advancement Program is to promote and reward professional
growth of staff registered nurses. The Career Program is based
on a belief that nurses should be evaluated and promoted according
to six areas of nursing performance: clinical, professional,
safety, environmental, customer relations, and research.
Three levels of clinical practice for registered nurses have
been defined. Criteria-based standards of performance and
job descriptions have been developed for each level. The titles
assigned to these levels are clinical nurse I (CNI), clinical
nurse II (CNII) and clinical nurse III (CNIII). The standards
of performance for each level are generic in that they apply
to all nursing divisions.
The scope of the clinical project is to promote effectiveness
in the clinical arena as identified by the CNI. Projects may
include areas of customer service, nursing practice, cost
effectiveness, and education at the unit or institutional
level. Projects may also be related to the community and its
needs.
All nurses in the career advancement program are hired at
the CNI level. To be promoted to the CNII level, they must
complete an approved research project designed to benefit
the unit, hospital, or community. After reaching CNII status,
nurses receive a bonus equal to five percent of their base
pay.
To progress to the CNIII level, the nurse must have a bachelor’s
degree in nursing or a related field. This level requires
a research project, including a review of medical literature
with a minimum of three cited sources. The selected project
must either enhance customer service or improve nursing practice
at the unit, institution, or community level. After reaching
CNIII status, nurses receive a bonus equal to ten percent
of their base pay. |
