The Jewish Hospital Surgery
The
general surgery residency training program is based at The Jewish Hospital, which is located in Kenwood, a suburb of Cincinnati. The Jewish Hospital, a 200 bed
hospital, is a member of The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.
There will be over 16,6000 surgical operations performed in our 13 plus operating, cystoscopy, and endoscopy suites.
It is estimated that the Emergency Department will see over 34,000 visits annually. Here, residents receive most of their academic training while participating fully in the evaluation, care and surgery of the large volume of patients. The residents will rotate at the Shriners Hospital for Children for their burn experience, The Christ Hospital for their transplantation experience, the Children's Hospital Medical Center for their pediatric surgery experience, and The University Hospital for their trauma/critical care experience.
During each PGY year each resident will average 225 surgical cases. Upon completion of the five-year residency, a resident can expect to have over 1,200 operative cases.
The Department of Surgery of The Jewish Hospital prides itself on the pursuit of excellence and on having maintained a tradition of collegial working relations with the residents and the attending surgeons since 1933. It is through their efforts that in November 1997, the Residency Review Committee (RRC) for surgery continued The Jewish Hospital's surgical residency full accreditation for five additional years. It is through the hard work of the administration, residents and attending staff of the Department of Surgery that this highest level of accreditation is maintained.
The Jewish Hospital Department of Surgery also has a residency program in podiatric surgery. To learn more about that program, go to http://www.jewishhospitalsurgicalresidency.org
The residency experience of The Jewish Hospital is under the guidance of Elliot Fegelman, MD, FACS, Director of the Department of Surgery, Mary Kirk, CNP, Administrative Director, Dr. Martin Popp, Associate Program Director, and Robert Bradley, MD, Associate Program Director.
