Retirees VolunteeringVolunteers are recruited throughout the year. Any adult or teenager (14 or older) wishing to apply or to obtain information should call the volunteer office at any of the Alliance hospitals.

After receiving your application, you will be interviewed to determine your preferences, abilities and any physical limitations, then you will be matched with the hospital's needs. Applicants who are accepted are required to participate in an orientation program. The program includes films and presentations by members of the hospital staff.

Applicants who are accepted are given a tuberculin skin test and drug test. The tests are performed at the hospital without cost to you and are repeated annually. If you know you are tuberculin positive, a chest x-ray may be taken also.

Following orientation, you are given job assignments and what days and hours you are to work. Each volunteer is given a job description which states in detail exactly what the job entails.

Men VolunteeringThe department requesting the service or a knowledgeable volunteer trains the new volunteer. Someone works with you until you have learned the job and feel secure doing it on your own. All volunteers report to the director of volunteer services and to the person in charge of the area where they are assigned. Every volunteer has a three-month introductory period.

Once a year, you are requested to evaluate your job assignments and to make constructive suggestions in a scheduled meeting with the director of volunteer services. All departments having volunteers who provide services evaluate your performance. These evaluations are reviewed by the director of volunteer services and reviewed with you.
