Breastfeeding-- A Family Affair |
| Breastfeeding
should begin as soon as possible after delivery--but even if there are delays or problems,
you can still succeed with breastfeeding. |
Deciding to breastfeed your newborn is just
the beginning of a rewarding and
satisfying experience for most women. Mother and baby work together to fulfill many needs:
nutritional, physical and psychological. The nursing couple (mother and baby) and father
make a teama new family unit.
Breastfeeding should begin as soon as
possible after delivery--but even if there are delays or problems, you can still succeed
with breastfeeding. The first few days and weeks are considered the adjustment period.
Keep in mind that both of you are learning together. Even when baby doesnt nurse,
mother is holding and spending valuable time with the little one. This enhances bonding.
Of course, lets not forget DAD. He is a very
important part of the new family unit. His total support of the nursing couple makes
breastfeeding a family affair.
When beginning to breastfeed, a few temporary problems may
occur, but any problem can be overcome. The rewards are worth the effort.
