Taking a Stand Drug-free Workplace Program Reduce Workers' Compensation Premiums
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is offering an incentive program designed to help employers establish a safer and more cost-effective workplace.

Dollars SavedThe Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is offering an incentive program designed to help employers establish a safer and more cost-effective workplace. The voluntary Drug-Free Workplace (DFWP) Program encourages employers to detect and deter substance use and abuse, and take appropriate corrective action. As an incentive, participating employers may be eligible for a 6 to 20 percent discount on their workers’ compensation premiums for up to five years. The Ohio BWC board will be voting this month to allow premiums to be stacked up to fifty percent.

The Drug-Free Workplace Program offers employers the flexibility of three levels, each with its own set of program requirements. The higher the program level, the greater the percentage of premium discount an employer may be eligible to receive. Each level requires the following five basic components: a written substance abuse policy; employee education; supervisor training; drug and alcohol testing; and employee assistance.

The Health Alliance is uniquely qualified to provide the services your company needs to qualify for the drug free workplace program. Health Alliance Laboratory Services is the only DHHS certified laboratory in the Tri-State and all drug testing is performed locally. The Health Alliance staff of trained substance abuse professionals can assist you with policy development, training and referrals to a qualified EAP.
