Occupational therapy (OT) provides preventative and restorative programs to help you if you’ve been hurt or have a physical limitation that interferes with your ability to perform daily activities such as bathing and dressing or housework. Occupational therapists help people who need therapeutic exercise, education, home or workplace adaptation, or adaptive equipment to function more independently in their daily lives

eOften patients are seen by OT professionals in the hospital after surgery, a stroke, or other conditions. These patients may need a daily living evaluation and treatment to learn new ways to perform daily activities. Some may require stays on the rehabilitation unit or transitional care unit to receive OT services that will enable them to return home independently.

Diagnoses treated by occupational therapists include, but are not limited to:

 e cumulative trauma e multiple medical problems
 e wrist and hand fractures e arthritis
 e post-traumatic injuries e post-surgical care
 e neurological impairments e tendonitis
 e peripheral nerve injuries

A big part of OT treatment involves:

e hands-on therapeutic exercise;
e pain management;
e wound care;
e custom splint fabrication;
Occupational Therapy patient education.

The goal of occupational therapy is to find a way to help you accomplish your goals. If you have become limited with your self care, home management, or leisure activities, ask your doctor about occupational therapy services. You are worth it!
