Contact: Betsy Westhafer 513-584-5923 Cincinnati, OH - University Hospital's Department of Transplant Services will be recognized for their participation in the Workplace Partnership for Life initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on November 9, 2007 at the David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center in Dayton, Ohio. "This recognition is an acknowledgment that University Hospital has done an outstanding job in promoting organ donation among our associates," stated Paul Volek, Administrative Director of Transplant Services. "On behalf of the various departments throughout our hospital who have shown committed support of our organ donor program and our living donation initiative, we are very honored to receive this recognition." Transplant Services at University Hospital, this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, provides a comprehensive solid organ adult transplant program that comprises liver, kidney, simultaneous kidney/pancreas, pancreas and heart transplantation. Approximately 400 people in Cincinnati are on the current waiting list for organ donation, as well as 2300 people in Ohio, 1200 people in Kentucky and Indiana and 92,000 people in the U.S The conference will feature the Workplace Partnership for Life (WPFL), a cornerstone project of the national Gift of Life Donation Initiative launched in 2001 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to increase the number of organ and tissue donors in this country. In addition to University Hospital, more than 11,000 national Workplace Partners have committed to the mission of educating millions of people about saving or enhancing lives through organ, tissue, eye or marrow donation. The event is being presented by the Division of Transplantation in collaboration with Donate Life Ohio and Gift of Life Michigan.
