Contact : Amy Bomar (513) 585-7200
Date: 06/13/2003Cincinnati-The Fort Hamilton Hospital, The University Hospital, The Jewish Hospital and The Christ Hospital have been recognized by the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) for their outstanding efforts to keep their employees safe. This is the 50th anniversary of the Ohio Hospital Safety Campaign, sponsored by the Ohio Hospital Association. Thirty-seven of the 117 hospitals in Ohio are being recognized for their superior safety records.
Hospitals were divided into nine groups based on the number of employees. On June 9, the hospitals with the lowest injury rate in their category were recognized. The Fort Hamilton Hospital (1001-1500 employee group) and The University Hospital (2501-4000 employee group) were top in their categories for lowest injury rate. The Jewish Hospital was in the top 20 percent winners and The Christ Hospital received an honorable mention.
Each hospital submits workplace safety information annually based on regulations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for the Ohio Department of Commerce. The campaign looks at injury-on-the-job cases as well as total days of work missed. Injury rate is determined by dividing the number of injury cases by the total number of hours worked at the facility that year.
The safety awards were created in 1953 by OHA and the Industrial Commission of Ohio to promote workplace safety.
The Health Alliance is an integrated health care delivery system that includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Jewish Hospital, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
