Cincinnati¾The University Hospital, The Jewish Hospital and The Fort Hamilton Hospital have been recognized by the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Statewide Hospital Safety Campaign for their outstanding efforts to keep their employees safe.
This year's 92 participating hospitals were divided into groups based on number of employees. The hospitals with the lowest injury rate in their category were recognized. The University Hospital (2,501-4,000 employee group) was the top hospital in its category for lowest injury rate for the fifth consecutive year. The Fort Hamilton Hospital and The Jewish Hospital were among the "Top Twenty Percent" Winners.
Each hospital submits workplace safety information annually based on regulations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the Ohio Department of Commerce. The campaign looks at injury-on-the-job cases as well as total days of work missed. Injury rate is determined by dividing the number of injury cases by the total number of hours worked at the facility that year.
The safety awards were created in 1953 by OHA and the Industrial Commission of Ohio to promote workplace safety.
