Cincinnati, OH - Today, The Jewish Hospital was named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® in the category of teaching hospitals by Evanston, Ill.-based Solucient®, the nation's leading source of health care information products.

The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance, and adaptation to the environment. The 13th edition of Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study appears in the Feb. 27 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.

"We are very proud to be recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country," says Aurora Lambert, senior vice president, Jewish Hospital. "This honor is a tribute to all of our physicians and staff members who work diligently each and every day to provide our patients with health care of the highest quality."

The Jewish Hospital was the first Jewish hospital in the United States. It was also the first hospital in Southwest Ohio to perform open-heart surgery in a suburban location. In 2001, Jewish became the first hospital in the United States to perform a knee replacement using computer-assisted surgery. Today, Jewish Hospital performs more computer-assisted total joint replacement surgeries than any other hospital in the world, and performs more knee and hip replacement procedures than any other hospital in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Jewish Hospital is also home to the Tristate's only adult bone marrow transplant program, as well as its internationally renowned Cholesterol Center.

The 13th edition of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study uses a balanced scorecard approach and scores hospitals according to nine key organization-wide measures: risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, patient safety, growth in patient volume, severity-adjusted average length of stay, expense per adjusted discharge, profit from operations, cash to debt ratio and tangible assets per discharge.

More information on this study and other 100 Top Hospitals research is available at www.100tophospitals.com.

The Jewish Hospital is part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
