Date: 03/12/99 The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital and The Jewish Hospital have been named among the top 100 cardiovascular hospitals in the nation by HCIA, a leading health care information content company. HCIA produces the yearly 100 Top Hospitals: Benchmarks for Success study, used by hospitals across the country as a target for performance. HCIA has now expanded its benchmarks program to include high risk, high cost, and high volume hospital service lines. The 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study is the first of this series.
The data used in the 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study are from HCIA's hospital-specific databases. The information is drawn from over 6,000 U.S. acute care and specialty hospitals. The primary sources of these data are the Medicare cost report, and the publicly available Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR).
In part one of the results, the 100 top hospitals for cardiac bypass surgery, The University Hospital was named as one of the top 100 teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs, and The Jewish Hospital and The Christ Hospital were named among the top 100 teaching hospitals without cardiovascular residency programs. Good Samaritan Hospital was the only other local hospital to receive recognition in this category.
In the second part of the results, the top 100 hospitals for interventional cardiology, The University Hospital was named among the top 100 teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs and The Christ Hospital was named a top 100 teaching hospital without a cardiovascular residency program.
"We are very proud to once again have three Alliance hospitals recognized for their heart services," said Jack Cook, president of the Health Alliance. "I know how hard our cardiovascular teams of physicians, nurses, and other professionals work to provide the best care possible to our heart patients, and I am glad their skill and dedication continues to be recognized."
The Health Alliance is an integrated health care delivery system which includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Jewish Hospital, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
