Dr. Privitera Named Treasurer

Dr. Michael PriviteraCINCINNATI - Michael Privitera, M.D., Professor of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Director of the Epilepsy Center at the UC Neuroscience Institute at University Hospital, has been elected treasurer of the American Epilepsy Society, the world's largest association of professionals dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of epilepsy.

Dr. Privitera received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center. He completed his residency at Georgetown University and a fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

An internationally regarded expert in seizures and the development of new antiepileptic drugs, Dr. Privitera is the author of a textbook about the effects of antiepileptic drugs, more than 20 book chapters on epilepsy and more than 100 scientific publications. Over the past several years, he has served as director of the major annual symposia on epilepsy for the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society. He lectures extensively in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The American Epilepsy Society seeks to advance and improve the treatment of epilepsy through the promotion of epilepsy research and education for healthcare professionals.
