CINCINNATI - Research clinicians from Stanford University and the University of Louisville will join experts from Cincinnati's James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders at the annual Sunflower Revolution Symposium & Expo, a free educational event for patients, family members, and caregivers.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati. The Symposium & Expo is a project of The Neuroscience Institute at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and University Hospital, the Mayfield Clinic and the Davis Phinney Foundation of Boulder, Colo.

Presenters at the event will include members of the Davis Phinney Foundation's national Scientific Advisory Board. Topics include an overview of treatments, developments in clinical and laboratory research, the impact of lifestyle on the biology of Parkinson's disease, occupational and physical therapy rehabilitation, and strategies for successful caregiving.

The three-day Sunflower Revolution weekend also includes a gala fundraiser (Sept. 5) and bike rides of 20, 40 and 100 kilometers (Sept. 7).

The Gardner Center, a component of The Neuroscience Institute, is a referral center for patients in Greater Cincinnati and the surrounding four-state region.

The Neuroscience Institute is dedicated to patient care, research, education, and the development of new treatments for stroke, brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, traumatic brain and spinal injury, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, disorders of the senses (swallowing, voice, hearing, pain, taste, and smell), and psychiatric conditions (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and depression).
