Florence - The St. Luke Hospitals are inviting women throughout the Tristate to "Wellness Wednesday," a free heart event taking place on Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Florence Mall in the center court. Women may attend the event any time during the event to receive free screenings and information.
Wellness Wednesday is part of Women's HeartAdvantage, a program sponsored by The St. Luke Hospitals to help educate women about the commonly overlooked risks of heart disease. January's free screenings will include cholesterol and blood pressure checks. The goal of this session is to provide women with the knowledge to detect early warning signs of heart disease and seek proper treatment.
According to David McClure, R.N., director of cardiology at The St. Luke Hospitals, few women (less than 10 percent) believe heart disease is a risk in their lives. "Fifty percent of women are in danger and 37 percent will die from heart disease. This means more women will die from heart disease than all forms of cancer."
The Women?s HeartAdvantage screenings are part of St. Luke's efforts to educate women, physicians and other caregivers on heart disease and atypical symptoms. For more information on this or other events with Women's HeartAdvantage, call 859-212-5600 or visit the Web site www.StLukeHospitals.com .
Florence Mall also offers a "Heart Check Center" blood pressure screening kiosk inside the main mall entrance located on the upper level between JC Penney and Macy's. This free health service is available to all mall shoppers 7 a.m.- 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The St. Luke Hospitals are part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The Jewish Hospital, Fort Hamilton Hospital, Drake Center, West Chester Medical Center and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
