Hamilton¯ The Fort Hamilton Hospital will host two Cancer Awareness Expos to be held on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. - noon at Ross High School, (3371 Hamilton Cleves Road in Ross) and 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. at Edgewood High School (5005 State Route 73 in Trenton). The goal of the Cancer Awareness Expos is to teach participants to identify lifestyle choices that increase their risk of developing cancer. Participants will learn to identify all cancer screenings that are important to their health and be able to identify resources available in their community or through the American Cancer Society to help with screening, cancer diagnosis and support systems available for cancer survivors and their families. Facts about cancer risk, early detection and prevention will also be provided to participants. Information about physical activity and nutrition will be available. Fort Hamilton Hospital staff will be on hand to answer questions about colorectal, breast cancer, lung, prostate, skin and cervical cancer. Samples of healthy snacks and healthy recipes will be available and all participants will receive a free guide to "Fortifying Your Health" and an "Eating for a Healthier You" book. The expos were funded by a $3,900 community investment grant from the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society awarded $150,000 in community investment grants (CIG) to organizations across the state, including $12,535 in Southwest Ohio, to support workshops, conferences, educational materials and other health-related projects aimed at fighting cancer. The grants were funded by proceeds from Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society?s signature activity and fund-raiser.
