Ft. Thomas--The St. Luke Hospitals recently opened a surgical oncology clinic enabling patients to see their medical and radiation oncologists on the same day in the same location at the Northern Kentucky Cancer Treatment Center. The Surgical Oncology Clinic is available for patients needing a surgical consultation, every Wednesday, 8 a.m. - noon, at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. In addition to convenience, this new service allows the involved physicians the opportunity to discuss coordination of each patient's individual care, ensuring the best outcomes. The clinic is staffed by the surgeons of Preferred Surgical Care. "The Surgical Oncology Clinic offers patients the convenience of seeing their surgeon in the same place they receive their other cancer treatment," said Heidi Murley, M.D., Preferred Surgical Care. "St. Luke has made a conscious effort to make cancer treatment as comprehensive, collaborative and accessible as possible to the Northern Kentucky community." Over the past year The St. Luke Hospitals have entered into a collaborative agreement with Oncology Hematology Care, Inc., the area's largest cancer physician group; established a dedicated Center for Breast Health, a comprehensive program, encompassing the physical, psychosocial, emotional, spiritual and environmental needs of patients; and started constructing a new patient care area near the Cancer Treatment Center. The St. Luke Hospitals are committed to leadership in oncology care for Northern Kentucky. The Northern Kentucky Cancer Treatment Center was the first regional comprehensive treatment center when it opened in 1981. The Center continues to merge the latest technology with a holistic approach to cancer treatment. This includes support for cancer patients and their families on nutritional, emotional, spiritual and social levels, and provides information on cancer prevention. This is in addition to the most advanced medical treatment for cancer care. If you have questions about cancer treatment options at The St. Luke Hospitals, call the Northern Kentucky Cancer Treatment Center at 859-572-3298. The St. Luke Hospitals are part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The Jewish Hospital, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
