Hamilton¯ The American Cancer Society presented The Fort Hamilton Hospital with a $3,900 community investment grant that will be used for a Cancer Awareness Expo to be held on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m.- noon at Ross High School and 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. at Trenton High School. The Fort Hamilton Hospital was one of four organizations in southwest Ohio that received the grant. The goal of the Cancer Awareness Expo is to teach participants to identify lifestyle choices that increase their risk of developing cancer. In addition, participants will learn to identify all cancer screenings that are important to their health and be able to identify resources available in their community or through the American Cancer Society to help with screening, cancer diagnosis and support systems available for cancer survivors and their families. "The Fort Hamilton Hospital is very excited to receive this grant from the American Cancer Society and to be able to directly invest the money back into the community to help cancer patients, survivors and their families," said Cathy Mense, manager of community health at The Fort Hamilton Hospital. The American Cancer Society awarded $150,000 in community investment grants (CIG) to organizations across the state, including $12,535 in Southwest Ohio, to support workshops, conferences, educational materials and other health-related projects aimed at fighting cancer. The 10-member American Cancer Society CIG volunteer committee evaluated all of the grant applications. The grants were funded by proceeds from Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society's signature activity and fund-raiser. Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings teams together from local businesses, schools, churches and families for fun, food and entertainment while experiencing a night under the stars. Team members take turns walking around a track. For more information about the Cancer Awareness Expo or the grant, please contact Cathy Mense at 513-856-9355 ext. 1410. The Fort Hamilton Hospital is part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Jewish Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
