The Fort Hamilton Hospital Center for Health and Wellness Hosts Second Annual Emergency Readiness Day Contact: Amy Bomar (513) 585-7200 Date: 05/06/2004
Fairfield Township, Ohio--Knowing what to expect can take the scare out of a child's emergency room visit. To help, The Fort Hamilton Hospital is sponsoring the second annual Emergency Readiness Day Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Fort Hamilton Hospital Center for Health and Wellness, 6645 Morris Rd., inside the East Butler County YMCA. Last year's Emergency Readiness Day attracted more than 200 guests.
A hands-on event, Emergency Readiness Day provides children of all ages-and their parents-the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun and educational activities. These activities will help them become more comfortable with things they might encounter during a trip to the emergency room. Children can visit a mock emergency room, test their speed at identifying poisons, try out a cast or crutches, practice stitching on a banana, bandage mock wounds, identify the X-rays with problems and more. There will also be an ambulance and fire truck for children to see, and University Air Care will fly in at 12:15 p.m.
Parents can learn to identify which symptoms require a visit to the ER and what they should expect once there. Physicians, nurses and staff from The Fort Hamilton Hospital, along with other volunteers, will be available to help the children and answer questions.
Children will receive an activity book filled with fun, educational games and information, as well as a free travel first aid kit. For more information call 513-856-9355 or visit www.FortHamiltonHospital.com.
"This event doesn't just focus on injury prevention, but is designed to help both children and adults know how to best handle a medical emergency," explained Julia Walter, coordinator for the Center for Health and Wellness. "Our goal is to make a trip to the emergency department less scary for all involved."
The Fort Hamilton Hospital is part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Jewish Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
