Cincinnati--A Forensic Approach: Collaboration of Healthcare and Justice, will be held March 7, 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., at the Thomas More College Holbrook Student Center in Steigerwald Hall. The one-day conference, presented by the Regional Forensic Council of Southwest Ohio, is designed to educate participants about the recognition of patterned injuries, documentation, evidence collection and other skills that will lead to successful litigation.
Featured speakers include Janet Barber Duval, R.N., co-author of Forensic Nursing; interpersonal violence and trauma expert David Lisak, PHD, forensic psychologist, University of Massachusetts at Boston; and William Smock, M.D.; professor of Emergency Medicine and forensic physician, University of Louisville and co-author of Forensic Emergency Medicine.
The event is designed for nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, law enforcement and social workers and attorneys. University Hospital is one of several area organizations sponsoring the conference. This CE activity has been approved for 7.5 nursing contact hours by the Ohio Nurses Association. It is also approved for 7.75 AMA PRA Category 1 credits for physicians. In addition, the conference is approved for 6.75 social work clock hours by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. The cost of the class is $60 or $25 for undergraduate students.

The Regional Forensic Council is a group of professionals from area institutions who saw the need for advanced education in forensics and developed a program to fill that need. The council has representation from the Health Alliance and University Hospital, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Hamilton County Prosecutors, Butler County YWCA, Tri-Health, Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Middletown Hospital, Middletown Hospital, Ft. Hamilton Hospital, Mercy Fairfield Hospital, McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital, Rape Crisis and Abuse Center, and Xavier University.
