Cincinnati - The Jewish Hospital recently completed renovations to expand its emergency department. With the new construction, the emergency department now spans the length of the hospital along Kenwood Rd., and adds five additional beds, raising the total to 24 monitored beds.
The Jewish Hospital has seen its annual number of emergency visits triple since the mid-1990s, from 10,000 visits per year to more than 33,000 in 2004.
"The hospital is in a wonderful location, making it convenient for people in our community to get to the emergency department quickly. We also do a great job of treating patients very efficiently. Most of the time, patients wait less than 30 minutes to see a physician. The additional beds are certainly a benefit to the hospital and the patients we serve," said Rick Ryan, M.D., medical director of the emergency department.
The Jewish Hospital's emergency medicine physicians are all board-certified in emergency medicine. The emergency department's services include a Fast Track area for the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, along with two fully equipped trauma rooms for more emergent cases. It also includes a decontamination room for patients involved in chemical spills or who have highly infectious diseases, and a helipad, should there be a need to transport a critically ill or injured patient via Air Care.
The Jewish Hospital is part of the Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The University Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
