Postal Service Honors Barrett Cancer Center and Provident Bank

To culminate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the United States Postal Service will pay tribute to Provident Bank and The Barrett Cancer Center for their continuing commitment to the fight against breast cancer. In a brief ceremony at Barrett Center, Provident CEO Michael Price will be making a presentation of a $25,000 check to William Barrett, MD, from The Barrett Center. The money will be used for patient care programs at The Barrett Center and research at University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. Cincinnati Postmaster Denise D. Porter will then make presentations of framed enlargements of the Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp to Price and Dr. Barrett. Julie Isphording, producer and host of "The Healthy Stuff? on WVXU, will emcee the ceremony. WHO: Cincinnati Postmaster Denise D. Barrett Cancer Center at The University Hospital, 234 Goodman. (Press parking in front of building) For every new personal and small business account opened in October, Provident made a $5 donation to the Barrett Cancer Center. Partnering with their customers, Provident and their parent company, National City, will contribute over $700,000 to breast cancer research, education and awareness by the end of 2004. The Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp was first issued by the Postal Service July 1998. The semipostal sells for a few cents more than the price of First Class postage, with the additional funds donated to research for a cure for breast cancer. Through September 2004, sales of the stamp have generated over $40.8 million for breast cancer research.
