CINCINNATI (Oct. 24, 2007) - LuAnn Reed, M.S.N., C.R.R.N., R.N.C., W.C.C. and clinical manager for Drake Center's advanced wound care program, recently received the National Alliance of Wound Care's (NAWC®) first-ever Outstanding Wound Care Certified (WCC®) of the Year Award, along with NAWC's first-ever Outstanding Research in Wound Care Award.
NAWC, a multidisciplinary accrediting organization offering the WCC credential to all levels of nursing, therapists, physicians and their assistants, established three awards this year to recognize WWC-credentialed individuals in the following areas: outstanding research in wound care, outstanding community outreach for the prevention and awareness of diabetes and prevention of wounds caused by the disease, and WCC of the year.
Amy Sper, B.S.N., R.N., M.B.A., chief nursing officer and vice president of patient services at Drake, was particularly pleased to learn that Reed was selected for not one, but two of NAWC's three inaugural awards: "LuAnn's leadership and vision have taken what was already an excellent wound care team to an even higher level. These national recognitions are a clear testament not only to LuAnn's commitment to excellence but also to the overall outstanding wound care practice and research at Drake Center."
Drake's advanced wound care team consistently achieves impressive rates of wound volume reduction and wounds completely healed. It also achieves fewer pressure ulcers than national benchmarks. Earlier this year, the team was published in a national journal and was later invited to present its processes and outcomes at a national wound care conference in Salt Lake City.
Under the direction of Reed, Drake Center's advanced wound care program has become the only program of its kind to have every nurse, as well as the physician on board, wound care certified.A nurse for more than 20 years, Reed has been working in wound care at Drake since 2005. Her experience includes both long-term and rehabilitative care, and she also is licensed as a nursing home administrator. She earned her Master's degree in nursing administration for Rochville University in Sarasota, Fla., and holds a Bachelor's degree in nursing form the University of Cincinnati. Reed received her awards during a special presentation at the Wound Care Education Institute's annual conference, "Wild on Wounds," in Baltimore on Sept. 21.
