Fort Hamilton Hospital implements advanced cardiac monitoring for all inpatient beds

Contact : Marielou Vierling (513) 867-2212
Date: 9-17-2009

Fort Hamilton Hospital recently completed adding cardiac telemetry monitoring capabilities to all medical and surgical inpatient beds, excluding rehabilitation, psychiatry and maternity.

Cardiac monitoring is continuous monitoring and analyzing of data that is received at a distance from its source, the patient's actual heart activity. Data is transmitted to a central location and is closely watched by specially trained monitor watchers 24-hours per day. The same data is also available to the nurses and physicians on the inpatient unit, or, in the case of Intensive Care Unit patients, at the bedside. Most patients wear the monitor during their entire hospital stay unless their physician determines this form of monitoring is not clinically required.

Inpatient unit nurses have been trained in arrhythmia interpretation and have attended critical care classes to prepare them for the increased monitoring capability.

Fort Hamilton Hospital is a full-service community hospital that has been serving Butler County residents for over 80 years.
