Date: 1-5-2010West Chester, OH - West Chester Hospital is offering free prostate screenings for men age 50 and older on Saturday, January 23, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the first floor of the hospital.
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, and is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). However, modern methods of detection and treatment mean that many prostate cancers are now found earlier and can be treated more effectively.
A prostate exam - involving a simple digital rectal exam and a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test - can detect the early warning signs of cancer that might save your life. Both the digital rectal exam and blood test are recommended to ensure the most accurate results.
The ACS recommends that most men should have an annual prostate exam beginning at age 50 unless they fall into a higher risk group, such as African American men, who should begin testing at age 45, or men with a family history of prostate cancer, who should begin getting an annual exam at age 40.
Reservations for the West Chester Medical Center screening day are required and space is limited. Call 513-298-3000 today to set up your appointment for your free screening. Exam includes digital rectal exam and PSA blood test. No physician order is required.
