West Chester, OH -- The Women's Imaging Center at West Chester Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for their mammography program. This accreditation gives assurance that staff and equipment have passed the ACR's rigorous evaluation.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment are assessed by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Findings are reported to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation.

"Having this certificate provides confidence to patients, referring physicians and managed care organizations that choose to utilize our facility," says Tom Brown, MD, medical director of radiology at WCMC. "We proudly hang our certificate in our patient's waiting area to be viewed and show our commitment to quality patient care."

It is recommended that women who are at least 40 years old get a mammogram every year. WCMC does not need a referring physician's order for a screening mammogram for women over 40. Women under 40 do need a referring physician's order for a screening. Schedule a mammogram by calling 298-3278 (FAST).

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists. Their programs focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
