The University Hospital will hold "A Celebration of Hope," a ceremony to honor those who have suffered from heart failure, on Friday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. in the main lobby of the hospital, 234 Goodman St. The event will include the release of 1,000 balloons, a garden of ribbons, and speakers to honor those with heart failure and heart transplants. Refreshments will be provided. The event is open to the public.
"A Celebration of Hope" is part of University Hospital's weeklong celebration of National Heart Failure Awareness Week. This special week is a part of a national campaign to educate Americans about heart failure, encourage early diagnosis and help patients discover available treatments.
Congestive heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart gradually becomes weakened and cannot pump an adequate amount of blood throughout the body. Although its cause is not always known, it usually occurs as a result of other cardiac conditions that have weakened or damaged the heart. Heart failure affects an estimated five million Americans.
The University Hospital is part of The Health Alliance, an integrated health care delivery system that also includes The Christ Hospital, The St. Luke Hospitals, The Jewish Hospital, The Fort Hamilton Hospital and the physicians of Alliance Primary Care.
