Drake Center´s Bridgeway Pointe Residents Donate Christmas Blankets to Cincinnati Children´s Hospital Medical Center for Santa Visit With NICU Babies

Cincinnati--Representatives from Cincinnati Children´s Hospital Medical Center will visit Drake Center´s Bridgeway Pointe on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. to receive a donation of  50 blankets and 50 Christmas blankets for the babies in Cincinnati Children´s Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The Christmas blankets will be used for pictures with Santa when he visits the NICU later this month.

The story behind this generous donation began with Barb Davis, the daughter of a couple who live at Bridgeway Pointe. Barb, an accomplished quilter and retired teacher, has  been making quilts for years. Several months ago she started working with interested residents at Bridgeway to design and make quilts. They now meet every Wednesday to create their works of art, with the staff providing assistance for those with physical limitations.

"This has been a wonderful opportunity for residents who have not sewn in years--or who have never sewn--to participate in a creative and productive activity," says Kit O´Brien, Admissions Coordinator. "Now they want to give a little of themselves to the NICU babies by way of their blanket creations."

Some of their quilts were displayed at the Sharonville Craft Show where they received praise and attention. For their next project, the group has agreed to provide quilts to Cincinnati Children´s for patient beds.

Members of the media should meet in the lobby of Bridgeway Pointe at 2:45 p.m. for an escort to the Club Room.
