West Chester -- Shashi Kant, MD, has been named medical director of renal services at West Chester Medical Center.

"It's very exciting to be a part of this new medical center," says Dr. Kant. "The opportunities it presents for us to treat patients with kidney disease will benefit the whole community through early detection and education on a range of factors that can contribute to the problem."

Dr. Kant is presently director of dialysis and extracorporeal services at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He is also a co-medical director of the Dialysis Clinic, Inc., and director of the organization's Home Dialysis Program. Dr. Kant has taught medical students at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine since 1977.

After earning his medical degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, Dr. Kant went on to a medical internship at Detroit General Hospital, followed by a residency in general medicine at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago. He completed a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and became a professor of clinical medicine at UC. Dr. Kant also earned his master's degree in clinical epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health.

He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, American Heart Association's Kidney Council, and the Renal Physicians Association.

Dr. Kant is an active public speaker, including an upcoming presentation this month to the Ohio Renal Association in Columbus. He has also published numerous articles in medical journals and participated in clinical trials and collaborative research studies.

Dr. Kant lives in Cincinnati with his wife and two daughters.
