West Chester Medical Center names Medical Director of Cardiology

West Chester -- Mohamed Effat, MD, has been named medical director of the cardiology department at West Chester Medical Center.

"Cardiology has made extraordinary advances, but those advances are only as important as the difference they make in people's lives," says Dr. Effat. "As director of cardiology at West Chester Medical Center, I am committed to building a leading heart program to provide the best in patient care. Patients can count on the combined experience of our team for all their heart needs."

Dr. Effat is the co-director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at University Hospital, Cincinnati, and director of echocardiography at University Pointe. He was previously the director of the cardiac care unit at University Hospital. He is also an associate professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he was awarded the Noble Fowler Faculty Teaching Award in 2008.

After earning his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine, Dr. Effat completed residencies in internal medicine at the Medical Foundation of Cairo, Egypt, and the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Sioux Falls. He also completed a fellowship in cardiology at Harvard Medical School, and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of Cincinnati.

He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology, and had practiced at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., before moving to Cincinnati.

Dr. Effat has conducted numerous clinical and pharmaceutical studies, is an active lecturer and has several publications in medical journals. Dr. Effat lives in Liberty Township, Ohio.

West Chester Medical Center is a new 160-bed hospital being built in West Chester, Ohio, and opening May 11, 2009. It will provide the latest technology delivered in a healing environment.
