Each year approximately 1.4 million people in the U.S. sustain a TBI, which is damage to the brain as a result of a sudden trauma. TBI has become the signature wound of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and Drake is reaching out to offer treatment to soldiers close to home. Roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices used in these wars often cause concussive blows that damage the brain, sometimes even when no outward wounds are visible. TBI can cause a wide range of functional changes affecting thinking, sensation, language or emotions. Drake Center is the region?s leader in helping TBI patients rebuild their lives. Veterans and their families will be honored guests at this event.
