Label Reading Guidelines:
        1. 1% or less milk, cottage cheese, yogurt
        2. 2 grams fat or less per serving frozen dairy dessert

Servings Per Day:
        2 or 3 (4 or 5 for growing children)

Serving Sizes:
        8 ounces milk
        1/2 cup cottage cheese
        8 ounces yogurt
        1/2 cup frozen dairy dessert

Helpful Hints:
        1. Lactose-free 1% or nonfat milk is available in most supermarkets

        2. The following products can be used in these amounts:
                2 tablespoons fat-free sour cream
                1 tablespoon light sour cream
                2 tablespoons fat-free cream cheese
                2 tablespoons non-dairy creamers

Note: If your blood sugar and/or triglycerides are high, choose "no sugar added" or
          sugar-free low fat frozen dairy desserts.

  • fat-free sour cream instead of margarine on baked potatoes
  • a vegetable dip made from plain nonfat yogurt mixed with fresh herbs
