Fruits & Vegetables

Servings Per Day:
        5 or more

Avoid: avocado and coconut

Limit: olives to 2 per day

Helpful Hints:

  1. Good sources of vitamin C: oranges and other citrus fruits, broccoli, kiwi, strawberries
  2. Good sources of beta carotene: dark green vegetables, yellow and orange fruits and  vegetables.
  3. Fruits and vegetables (cooked or raw) are good sources of fiber.
  4. Canned fruit packed in its own juice has less sugar than in a heavy syrup.

Note: If you have high blood sugar, high triglycerides, or are on a weight-loss diet, limit fruit to
          3 servings per day.

  • keep cut up raw vegetables in a plastic bag in the refrigerator; serve with a fat-free dip for a between meal snack
  • include at least one good source of vitamin C every day
  • include at least one good source of beta carotene every day
  • to maintain good health, eat 4 or 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day
