Other Dietary Restrictions

Sugar
Because of high blood sugars, diabetes, or high triglycerides, your doctor may have recommended that you reduce the sugar in your diet. In addition to limiting sugar, you should also eliminate alcoholic beverages like wine, beer, etc.

There are many sugar-free or "no sugar added" desserts on the market and many of these are also low fat. Baked goods like cookies and cakes, however, are rarely sugar-free and low fat.

Salt or Sodium
Your doctor may have recommended that you follow a low sodium diet. The following list can help you make lower sodium choices at the grocery store. Most low sodium diets are 2,000 milligrams (mg) or less per day.
