All Day Stew

The stew recipe below is an example of slow, moist cooking. Buy round steak or very lean London Broil. Remember, you can always trim edge fat; it's the marbling fat that can't be removed before cooking. With red meat, you can see if it is lean.

1 pound lean round steak or London Broil, trimmed and cubed
4 medium potatoes, quartered
4 carrots, cut into large chunks
2 onions, quartered
1 teaspoon salt
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce

 

Place meat in deep casserole dish. Add potatoes, carrots, and onions; sprinkle with salt. Pour tomato sauce over the vegetables, making sure the sauce has coated everything. Cover and bake at 250 degrees for 5 hours.
