Students must complete the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for a Pell Grant.
To be eligible for a grant, students must demonstrate financial need as
indicated by the expected family contribution. The maximum grant in 2002
- 2003 was $4,000.
Federal Family Education Loan
Program. Federal Stafford Loan
The subsidized Federal Stafford
Loan is a need-based loan on which the government pays the interest while
you are a student. Eligibility for the loan is dependent upon your Cost
of Attendance (COA) less your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The
difference is your "financial need."
Unsubsidized Federal Stafford
Loan
The unsubsidized Federal Stafford
Loan is not a need-based loan. However, you must complete the FAFSA to
determine first if you qualify for the subsidized loan. Because
the government does not subsidize or pay the interest while you are in
school, you have the option of paying the interest or deferring the interest
until you graduate or withdraw from the school.
Federal Parents Loan for Undergraduate
Students (PLUS)
This loan is for parents of
dependent undergraduate students. The FAFSA does not have to be filed
since eligibility is not based on the establishment of need.
Ohio Instructional Grant
(OIG)
The Ohio instructional Grant
is available to eligible students who are residents of the State of Ohio.
The grant is awarded on the basis of financial need. You must be enrolled
full time (12 credit hours) to be eligible to receive this grant.
Part-Time Instructional
Grant Program (PTSIG)
The Part-Time Instructional
Grant Program (PTSIG) is granted to students who have been identified
as eligible for the OIG grant but are enrolled in our program at less
than full-time status.
Nurse Education Assistance
Loan Program (NEALP)
The purpose of this program
is to provide assistance to Ohio residents enrolled in approved nurse
education programs and to encourage these students to practice in a clinical
setting in the state of Ohio. A limited number of awards will be
granted to those students who demonstrate the highest financial need.
If the borrower is employed in the clinical practice of nursing for four
years, 80% of the loan will be forgiven.
Nursing Student Loan Program
Federal funds from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services assist students in achieving careers
in nursing by providing long-term, low-interest loans to help meet the
costs of education. Students must apply through the school in which
they are enrolled. The maximum loan for the first two academic years
is $2,500. The interest rate is 5 percent for all loans.
Veterans Benefits
A student may qualify for educational
benefits through the Veterans Administration. Eligible students
should contact their local VA office for authorization.
