Comprehensive educational facilities

Students in our nursing program enjoy a state-of-the-art facility. Numerous technologically advanced class and conference rooms are used for school planned learning activities. A nursing skills lab, staffed by faculty,  is equipped with mannequins and other equipment used in performing various nursing procedures.  These provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice essential skills in a controlled, simulated healthcare setting.

A staffed Computer Center housing 40 computer workstations uses modern technology to enhance the learning environment. In addition to Internet access and word processing programs, installed software includes, computer-assisted instruction and testing programs.

The James N. Gamble Library maintains a comprehensive collection of reference books, textbooks and professional journals related to nursing, medicine and other health fields. The library also provides access to word processing functions as well as to the Internet and a variety of medical and nursing databases.

Locker areas, comfortably furnished lounge and study areas with vending facilities, learning assistance tutorial and resource rooms and a fitness center provide what students may need to make profitable use of free time.

A fully-equipped, multipurpose science laboratory that will enable students to complete the laboratory segments of all required science courses on-site is in the process of completion.

In addition to the above, clinical facilities at The Christ Hospital, other Alliance hospitals, Children's Hospital Medical Center, extended care facilities and a variety of community-based health care settings provide students with educational opportunities to learn and practice nursing in multiple environments.

Guidance
program and academic advisement

Multiple resources are available to students desiring personal or academic advising. The executive director, division director of academic services, division director of student services, financial aid director, hospital chaplains and faculty members are all available for counseling and assistance with specific concerns. Nursing instructors meet regularly and as needed with students throughout the program regarding individual academic and clinical progress. The instructor of student services assists each class with specified class and student council activities. In addition, the Alliance Employee Assistance Program, a confidential counseling and referral service, is available to nursing students 24 hours a day at 513-585-6100.

Learning Assistance Program (LAP) The Learning Assistance Program helps students develop skills important for success, such as test taking, time management, proactive study strategies, note taking and reduction of test anxiety. Tutoring and remediation services are also provided, as are periodically scheduled academic skill workshops.
Food Service The Christ Hospital cafeteria provides meals for students and employees. A national chain restaurant is located next to the hospital lobby. Vending machines, always open, are located near the hospital lobby and in the school.
Student Health
Services
Our student health program provides health consultations and care to students for hospital-related injuries and illnesses. Emergency care is available in the hospital at all times on a fee-for-service basis. For primary health needs, it is recommended that each student carry his or her own health insurance policy.
Vacation Students receive approximately 16 weeks of vacation during the school program. All students are on vacation during the Christmas holidays. Timing of other vacations is dependent upon student placement in the curriculum. The school catalog contains a complete schedule.
Student Activities You'll find plenty to do at school in your spare time. As a student, you are invited and encouraged to join any of several committees that plan and carry out community service as well as social and extracurricular activities.

Student Council is made up of elected officers and chairpersons of standing committees, as well as class representatives. This group is active in student policy development and implementation.

NSNA Students of The Christ Hospital School of Nursing receive membership in the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA). NSNA's mission is to mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses and to promote development of the skills that students will need as responsible and accountable members of the nursing profession. As NSNA members, students receive a subscription to Imprint, a magazine published by nursing students for nursing students and other benefits. To find out more about the NSNA, click here.
