in Primary Care
pharmacy practice.
This ASHP accredited
residency focuses
on the provision
of pharmaceutical
care to a diverse
patient population
in a variety of
different ambulatory
settings including:
General Internal
Medicine Clinics,
private physician
office settings,
Center for Emergency
Care, Pharmacist-Managed
Anticoagulation
Clinics, Infectious
Disease Clinic,
Smoking Cessation
and Congestive Heart
Failure Clinics.
Direct patient care
activities are combined
with outpatient
drug policy and
development, formulary
management, and
medication use evaluation,
enabling the resident
to function as an
integral part of
the ambulatory clinic
staff.
Learning objectives for the specialized residency are focused on developing competencies in the pharmacotherapeutic management of common disease states encountered in the ambulatory environment. Concentration is placed on developing skills for disease-state management and education of patients with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, asthma, and other chronic disease states associated with high health care resource utilization.
The resident will be involved in teaching activities and preceptorship of pharmacy practice residents, as well as Pharm.D. students. The specialized resident will be exposed to a variety of outcomes-based research projects with the opportunity to complete a major project suitable for publication.
