Since 1986, the Infectious Disease Center (IDC) at The University Hospital has been providing quality outpatient care for many critical diseases from bone infections to tuberculosis. The IDC is a nationally recognized Center of Excellence for HIV care and is the only center in the region that provides a comprehensive program of primary and consultative care for HIV patients. It is also one of only 32 sites in the United States funded by the National Institutes of Health to conduct clinical trials research in HIV, therefore making the most current care and treatment available to all of our patients. The mission of the IDC is to provide high-quality care to persons with all types of infections, conduct research to benefit our community with a focus on HIV infection and educate/train health care personnel and the community. The IDC staff includes a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, medical assistants, research staff, a pharmacist and a financial counselor all dedicated to improving the health of those who live in the area.
